By the end of the eighties, the UK label Komodo got famous in the Acid House scene with their glow-in-the-dark Smilie T-shirts and their fluorescent surfshorts. The label was launched in 1988 by some friends, who met in the English House scene. Fair Trade was a logical way of doing business from the beginning. Director Mark Bloom explains: “We had our collection made in small factories Bali and Kathmandu, we understood from an early stage that the more handmade details we wanted, the more people had to work for us. So the more clothes we ordered, the more people had a job and we felt that was a good thing.”
Step by step also biological cotton got more and more important and nowadays almost 70% of the collection is made of biological cotton. The Komodo collection is sold in manycou ntries in Europe, but also in Japan, the US and in Bali.
Shakira will release her brand new album, Sale el Sol/The Sun Comes Out, on October 19th and we are sure her new single “Loca” will be a hit. “Loca” is Shakira’s interpretation of Dominican artist El Cata’s song “Loca Con Su Tiguere” featuring a guest appearance from Dizzee Rascal, the UK’s number one rapper.
Here a preview of the single:
Shakira is a celebrity that we will not define “Loca”, we admire her because she has been working hard with her charity projetcs which are a reality. In Barranquilla, Colombia, she founded “Pies Descalzos”. “Pies Descalzos” is a NGO foundation created with the purpose of finding opportunities for vulnerable and displaced children. Within their programs they offer:
-If I eat well, I will learn more : Malnutrition causes delayed and stunted growth, poor motor development, lower IQ scores, decreased attention, behavioral deficiencies and lower educational achievement. This program combats malnutrition, providing students with nutritious meals. Through it, Pies Descalzos evaluates nutritional status, fosters a culture of participation in meals and nutritional issues, and encourages healthy lifestyles which improve the nutritional security of the communities.
-If I learn more, I can be more: Pies Descalzos implemented building improvement projects to help these children access a quality education. Thanks to this program, the kids now have more space and improved facilities at the schools where Pies Descalzos operates.
-If I smile more, I can achieve more: Children who survive terrible traumas are often haunted by their experiences. Through this program, Pies Descalzos assists children who have recently arrived in the city with their families or who have been the victims of violence in their homes. Shakira and our Foundation understand the healing power of creative expression, so they use art, music and recreational activities to enrich the children’s education. In addition, they can receive psychological counseling and support for themselves and their families.
-Family income: Desperately poor children must often work to support their families if the families are to survive. Child laborers are denied the chance for education and are subjected to dangerous working conditions. Through this program, Pies Descalzos provides economic opportunities for families, thus fighting child labor and improving socio-economical conditions for the families they help.
Jason Mecier is a great ecological artist and his collection of “celebrity junkdrawers” on which he creates portraits of celebrities with their own trash merit to show and talk about. Results are marvelous and watching carefully his creations and the pieces of junk of each celebrity you can also figure out a part of the style life of the celebrity.

By chance I have stopped by with my family at San Remo (Italy) and discovered how wonderful is this city right after the Blue Coast in France. As soon as you entered into the center of the city you can park the car and rent a bike. We found immediately at the main parking that has been built at the old train station right in front of the sea a tent named “nolo bici” which offers so many types of bikes to rent. We picked two city bikes and also a trolley for children and had a pleasant ride by the bike course that is long 24 km and it is sorrounded by the typical Ligurian landscape past the sea. This bike course is suitable also for kids and going along it you can stop by some coffee bar and take a delicious Italian coffe or stop by with your children at any park and have an Ice cream. After cycling for at least two hours on our way back to the parking we found a mobile artisan ice cream on bike!
Here we want to share a video, it is worthwhile to visit San Remo and enjoy a ride on bike:
